Creating a positive climate and culture in your classroom at the beginning of the year is essential. April Wurtsmith, a fifth grade teacher in her second year of teaching at Independence Elementary, really wanted to start the year right last fall, making sure she and her students got to know each other well to create a positive, inviting classroom for the year.
